Technique Tuesday - Paper Piecing

Welcome to another edition of Technique Tuesday- today I am playing with Paper Piecing after seeing a video from Stampin Heidi on Instagram wanted to give it a go myself with a little of my own twist.

Final design was inspired by playing along to a few challenges.

Tic Tac Toe challenge #tttc301 with Twine, Free square Technique and Metallic embellishments for a diagonal line for the win.

Colourful Options September Mood board … loving the little brown bear. 

I’m getting inky with the Cutest Crew stamp set, Sunflower Fields DSP, Neutrals Jute twine, Metallic gem embellishments, black blends marker and white gel pen.

Technique is basically instead of colour with markers to stamp your image on different pattern paper and fussy cut and piece together on your main stamped image. 

Bonus tip - colour your sign with black marker and use a white gel pen to write a personal message. 

Such a fun technique - love this stamp set and the chalkboard option for personalizing messages for other occasions outside of the intended holiday sentiments.

Technique Tuesday - Herringbone

Welcome to another edition of Technique Tuesday here on the blog. Today I am playing with the Herringbone Technique a create way to use up scraps and show off DSP at same time! 

Today’s design was inspired by playing along to a couple challenges.

Hand Stamped Sentiments colour palette #HSS496 Secret Sea, Cajun Graze & Pool Party 

Tic Tac Toe Challenge #tttc301 Metallic embellishment, Free space I used a technique, bronze twine. 

I’m getting inky with Fall for Fun, Painted Patch DSP, Nested Essential dies, Lost Lagoon, Pool Party, Cajun Craze, Timid Tiger, Golden Glow and Pecan Pie dark blends, rhinestones coloured blue and unbranded twine!

Technique is basically to use coordinating scraps of paper and lay them out in the repeating V herringbone pattern. My scraps are 3/4” x 4” in length. You can cover the whole front like I have or start higher up on page and do a partial and leave a portion blank. I used scraps from my scraps for the tiny sections to make the most of all my paper. 

Love the final Herringbone pattern the design has a stunning effect. This little scarecrow getting a workout this Fall - I just love him!

Technique Tuesday - Acrylic Block Watercolour

Welcome to another edition of Technique Tuesday - today I am playing with the acrylic block technique. 

My design was inspired by playing along to a few challenges:

Addicted to CAS - code word purple for my colour palette of Blackberry Bliss, Gorgeous Grape & Highland Heather 

CAS on Friday challenge to create a Sea theme. #342

Almost Clean & Simple CAS card challenge to #saturdaychallenge12 Geometric Shape - I used a rectangle block.

Krafty Chicks challenge ‘birthday’ for my sentiment choice.

I’m getting inky with Scenic Coast Dies, Words of Beauty stamps, BlackBerry Bliss, Gorgeous Grape, Highland Heather inks and pearls coloured with BlackBerry Bliss blends.

Technique Steps are easy

Add ink to block with either pad or water based marker in ombré pattern of lightest to darkest and spritz with water and stamp to paper.

Technique Tuesday - Slider Fun

Welcome to another edition of Technique Tuesday - this week I am showcasing a fun Scarecrow slider card.

 

Playing along with the Global Design Project Garden/Harvest mood board #GDP563 

Getting inky with the Fun for Fall Bundle, Everyday Arches dies and since my gingham DSP didn’t arrived in time I pulled out my old Buffalo Check stamp set and than blended over it with the Golden Glow to mimic the current gingham DSP and added some radiant gems for bling. I used the retired Window Punch to create my slide but you can use a die or manually cut a slide track on a trimmer if you don’t have the Word Punch.

I got my slider mechanisms on Amazon because it is just easier than making them by hand but for those who prefer to DIY there are loads of DIY tutorials out there  using pennies and dimensional foam if you’ve still got access to pennies - Canada got rid of our penny 🤣

I just love this little scarecrow in the Fun for Fall bundle - I am lucky my name got picked to be the Happy Stamper game and I was given the stamp set to showcase at last months Stamp2Cr8 team meeting and have been having so much fun with it I ordered the adorable dies that go with it. The corn and fence are great Fall design add ons! I just love the slider allowing the scarecrow to move back and forth behind my fence line!

Technique Tuesday - Fault Line

Welcome to another edition of Technique Tuesday here on the blog. Today I am playing with the Fault Line technique - a fun design with lots of texture. 

Today design was inspired by playing along to TGIF challenges mood board of the warm yellow fall floral vibes #tgif591.

I’m getting inky with the Fun for Fall stamp set and the August POM Glow of Harvest 

Glow of Harvest DSP 

Measurements 

• Card base 5 1/2” x 8 1/2” score at 4 1/4”
• Mat layer 5 1/4” x 4”
• Insert 5 1/4” x 4”
• DSP layer 3 7/8” x 3 7/8”
• Light Cardstock layer 3 7/8” x 2 3/4” - stamp sentiment in lower right corner and add any background stamps desired 
• Dark Cardstock Layer 3 7/8” x 2 3/4”
• Focal image as desired 

Process Steps:

1. Fold card base and add dark mat to front of card and insert inside. 
2. Adhere the DSP layer centred on the front mat.
3. Layer the light and dark cardstock on top of each other with the light on top - do not adhere yet.  Starting on the left side closer to the top gently rip in half going down at an angle stopping just a top of the stamped sentiment. 
4. Once torn glue the two top layers together with the dark cardstock matted slight off to create the fault line layer and repeat with the bottom layer. 
5. Adhere the top and bottom torn pieces onto the card centred at the top and bottom of the DSP layer so it becomes the peek out between the two fault lines. 
6. Add your focal image and any embellishments to finish your design.

Love the effect of the fault line design technique - adds a unique texture & dimension with the little scarecrow bracing himself  between the opening fault with blowing leaves surrounding him. Fun little ‘Hope your day is wonderful’ card for a Fall birthday or just because or thank you card.

Technique Tuesday - Black Magic

Welcome to another edition of Technique Tuesday. Today I’m playing with the Black Magic technique using the Fern & Floral embossing folder.

My design was inspired by a couple challenges:

Festive Friday National Zoo Awareness Day #ff0216 inspo list lots of textures, jungle vibes leaves and neutral green jungle colours. 

 

Cupcake Inspiration #CI640 - green garden vibes. 

I’m getting inky with the Fern & Floral embossing folder, Phrases & Frames bundle, Butterfly Flight hot foil bundle, Lemon Lime Twist, Granny Apple Green, Garden Green, Old Olive & Secret Sea inks and unbranded gold twine. 

The Steps to Technique are pretty easy:

1. Ink cardstock with bright colours of choice

2. Run through embossing folder as is with color facing up and the Stampin’ Up! Logo on the top.

3. Ink the top of embossing folder with the logo with your black or dark colour of choice.

4. Run through the folder again to transfer ink down into the design. Reink and repeat if needed to get desired saturation.  

Complete your design. 

Love the bold green colours against the dark almost black magic of the Secret Sea! I used all 3 types of embossing in my design as I created extras for a swap with an embossing theme - the Fern & Floral folder and the Phrases & Frames impressions embossing, the gold heat embossing of my sentiment and hot foil embossing with the butterflies.

Welcome to another edition of Technique Tuesday - today I am playing with the Spotlight technique.

Festive Friday World Photography challenge #FF0215 …I chose black, white and a smile sentiment

I’m getting inky with The Butterfly Flight hot foil bundle, Nature’s Symphony stamp set, Stylish 

Shapes dies, Artisan Garden sketched DSP, Wink of Stella and Daffodil Delight blends and retired black gems.

Spotlight technique is a great way to add a pop of colour without having to colour the whole project.

Final design is a cheerful ‘you make me smile’ card to send out to someone as a thank you for being a friend.

Technique Tuesday

Welcome to another edition of Technique Tuesday - today I am playing with an oldie but goodie Tissue Paper Background. 

My colour palette was inspired by AAA Colourful  colour themed challenge Colourboard #30 I flipped it upside down for a watery sunset. 

Getting inky with Secret Sea, Afternoon Azure, Balmy Blue, Crushed Curry, Golden Rod and Crumb colours and Scenic Coast bundle with tissue paper and adhesive sheets.

Final design turned into a little work of art - the texture in the tissue background gives off painted canvas vibes - too pretty to cover up with a sentiment so pit the sentiment inside for this one.

Double Vision Technique Tuesday

Welcome to another edition of Technique Tuesday - today I am playing with the Double Vision technique.

My final design was inspired by a few challenges.

Just Add Ink sketch challenge #JAI789 - perfect inspiration for trying out the Double Vision technique.

         

Inspire.Create Stampin’ Challenges colour palette #219 of Yellow, Pink and Orange. I’ve chosen Lemon Lolly, Melon Mambo and Pumpkin Pie for my palette. 

 Cupcake Inspiration #638 Anything Goes  

INKspirational visual prompt - inspired by the bright colours and florals.

I’m getting inky with the Artisan Designed Garden DSP, Greetings for All Mix & Match ephemera, Barely Blush & Crisp Canteloupe Shimmer Brushes, Lemon Lolly, Melon Mambo and Pumpkin Pie inks and blends. Metallic Silver.

Technique is a quick one that adds cool depth and dimension to your designer paper.

Technique Steps:

• Cut chosen DSP into strips - I have done 1/4” on the Artisan Sketched Garden DSP coloured with blends. 
• Adhere the strips to your base by alternating the use of flat layer with glue and a popped up layer using Dimension’s strips and repeat until all strips are adhered. Trim off excess if desired. 
• Complete your card design with a sentiment and embellishments of choice.

A bright & summery thank you card for someone special. I had fun colouring the Artisan Sketched Garden DSP with the bright colours & shimmer brushes for those pops of sparkle.
