Technique Tuesday- Masking

Masking is such an easy technique that can provide a total pop of elegance to any card!

I am loving the combination of the masking with the pop of white embossed  images.

  • Includes a Classic Stampin’ Spot
Order yours here before December 10th to play along!

Sketch time over at the Nerds!

Hey there Margaret here guest designing for the Scrapbook Nerds over on Facebook - we are excited to share a wonderful Made by Melina sketch with you this week! Hope you come along and play! She has both scrapbook layout sketch and a modified card sketch for us!

For my take on the sketch I did both a landscape and a portrait layout featuring one of my favorite Salted Background techniques! You can get the reinkers , watercolour paper and aqua brushes needed for this technique from the Nerds too!
I paired my technique with background with scraps from my Vicik Boutin Wildflower and Honey papers and the Sticker sheets over on the Scrapbook nerds online store!
Love how no two backgrounds turn out the same with this technique - but the colors blend perfectly together!

Classic Stampin’ Spot Techniques

The new Classic Stampin’ Spots Assortment on page 147 of the 2020–2021 Annual Catalog that goes live this week is the perfect little ink collection for your stampers.

With eight colors including Basic Gray, Coastal Cabana, Daffodil Delight, Flirty Flamingo, Gorgeous Grape, Granny Apple Green, Real Red, Shaded Spruce, the lovely array of colors hits the spot.

Here are some fun techniques to prove that some of the best things come in tiny packages.

  • Block Background: Use the spot as a stamp. Turn it over and apply it directly to the paper for the cutest card on the block.
  • Tasteful Texture: To mimic the wood grain of the In Good Taste Designer Series Paper, swipe the spot across the stamps instead of pressing the stamp to the ink.
  • Layered Colors: Use the Stamparatus and apply the darkest colors around the edges of the image. Stamp. Then clean the stamp with your simply shammy and apply a lighter color in the center. Stamp again to create the look of a multicolored markered image
You can also create your own 'custom mini spots' using the uninked spots just add your own reinker color choice!

Tie Dye Technique class samples

Good afternoon crafters - here are the cards participants made at our Thursday night Tie Die technique class.

Our first card and 'reference / practice' sample features  Coffee Cups framelits currently on the Clearance rack as well as the sentiment from the Gangs all Meer from Sale-abration in a color palette of Granny Apple Green and Night of Navy!

Second card features the Dressed to Impress stamp and die bundle paired with Granny Apple green and Lovely Lipstick color palette!

Our final card features the Under my Umbrella stamp and punch bundle and a color palette of Flirty Flamingo, Calypso Coral and Slate Grey - this was also the card use

The tie die technique is a lovely quick background technique that gives a nice layer of dimension and pop of colors for your projects! Fellow demonstrator Kelly Jolley did an amazing video tutorial for it so rather than recreate one I will just share hers here for you if you'd like to try at home on your own.

If you'd like to join us for a monthly techqnue class check out the events section on the website.

Corrugated Cardboard technique

Love the corrugated cardboard technique for adding a shabby chic look to a paper crafting project!

Reusing your corrugated cardboard boxes are an awesome way to reduce reuse recycle while adding some vintage gorgeous grunge look to your project! Cut the cardboard box down and then use your paper cutter or scissors to cut the piece to the size desired for your project. If you want more than a simple square you can even run the cardboard box piece through the Big Shot with dies – old style Sizzix work easy the thinlits dies take a couple runs through!

Once you’ve cut your cardboard box to desired size and shape for your project carefully use a paper piercer or craft knife to peel back and remove the very top layer of the cardboard paper and continue removing layers to reveal the corrugated portions you want! You can peel away as much as you want for your desired vintage or worn look that works for you. Then you can add any inking around edges and add it to your card and complete design as desired!

For Aprils card making class we enjoyed making the following treasures!

We got it one last chance to play with the Dragonfly Dreams before it retires in June! Definitely a set that I am not sure I can part with when I have to purge my supplies to make room for new goodies!

I just loved how this dragonfly turned out - I stamped it on the Granny Apply Green paper using Versa-mark and sprinkled with gold embossing powder and than sponged in some night of navy to give it an iridescent look. Photos never do cards a true justice!

Used a retired Happy Birthday sentiment

Love themed card ... playing with a soon to be retired Sunshine Wishes bundle using the heart die and love word with the Sale-a-bration Lovely Lipstick foil paper - which I just loved and stocked up on with all my extra Sale-a-bration earnings!

The Stitched Be Mine thinlit's cut through the cardboard with ease and love how the card came together using up a piece of retiring DSP as well.
Final card of the class featuring the Animal Outing and Animal Friends die bundle ... card came together so adorably!

Embossing with a Twist Class

Love this card technique from our January Card class might!
It really adds a nice texture to your paper crafting project!

We created the Reference card practice sample using the Love You To Pieces stamp set and coordinating die bundle! Rich Razzleberry and black are such a striking color combo!

For the first card we used the dies from Lift Me Up bundle using the Up Up and Away Thinlits to create a lovely monochrome white on white with a black accent and sentiment.

For the final project of the class we showcased the Painted Glass bundle dies with the My Story sentiments from Saleabration  and the Taylored punch.

Card classes currently occur the last Thursday of the month. They are great for new and experienced cardmakers alike. Each month we try a new technique or product out and you get to make a sample reference card to have directions to make more at home if you like and than we make two projects featuring the technique or product. For the avid papercrafter you can create for free with a $35 order  of Stampin Up product the night of class to help build your collection  OR if you are just wanting to try paper crafting out or have a good size stash and are just wanting inspiration you can create with cash and carry for $10 cash.

Have an amazing day!
