Vicki Boutin Storyteller creations

Margaret here - its been a while since I have been in the craftroom -  apprently I managed to compress 3 disc in my neck and one of them keeps hernating anytime I have a flare in my arthritis which has made doing anything that involves holding my head up for too long excrusating painful - but we finally have a medication mix that seems to be working and I am having my first good day in months!

So I am back in the craftroom guest designing for the Scrapbook Nerd and their Facebook group - if you are not a member please come on over and click the join for lots of creative inspiration!  We have fun challenges each week from the design team and there are regularly prizes from Joy the owner of the Scrapbook Nerds online shopping website!

This week I am playing with Vicki Boutin's Storyteller collection because I just love all her designs!

Makes my heart happy that she has a grid paper as part of her collections - they are amazing inspiration for both quick cards and pocket scrap-booking!

I also used the TGIG challenge #TGIFC309  to jump start my creative juices!

I used the Concord & 9th Little Love Tags stamp set to create my own DSP background on the whisper white cardstock base in Pool Party.

I than cut out one of the grids from the Storyteller DSP and mounted in on Bermuda Bay cardstock, wrapped that with teal bakers twine and mounted it with dimensionals onto the base. I added a little 3D popped up butterfly from the Storyteller Butterflies layered stickers.I left the inside blank so I can use this card for any occasion when the time comes.

I also made a second card to use up the other half of my base paper cause I tend to create in 'twos'. For this one I used the Storyteller stencils to create a textured background on the base by sponging Pool Party ink. Chose the sentiment Happy Birthday to ... from the My Favorite Things - All About You stamp set placed perfectly in the banner and than adored with a retired sparkly ribbon and some iridescent pearls to complete the card front.

Inside I stamped the bold You in Pool Party to finish the card.

In my humble opinion this stamp set is a must for both cardmaking and using in scrapbook layout titles as it is so versatile for sentiments included fitting so many of life's moments!

Sketch time over at the Nerds!

Hey there Margaret here guest designing for the Scrapbook Nerds over on Facebook - we are excited to share a wonderful Made by Melina sketch with you this week! Hope you come along and play! She has both scrapbook layout sketch and a modified card sketch for us!

For my take on the sketch I did both a landscape and a portrait layout featuring one of my favorite Salted Background techniques! You can get the reinkers , watercolour paper and aqua brushes needed for this technique from the Nerds too!
I paired my technique with background with scraps from my Vicik Boutin Wildflower and Honey papers and the Sticker sheets over on the Scrapbook nerds online store!
Love how no two backgrounds turn out the same with this technique - but the colors blend perfectly together!

World Cardmaking Day Crop over on Scrapbook Nerds!

Come join us over on the Scrapbook Nerds and Friends Facebook group this weekend as we celebrate World Cardmaking Day with challenges, games and prizes!

As guest designer my challenge is to 'Get your Technique On' by creating a project with your favorite paper crafting technique and share with the group - my chosen technique is the polished stone because it is messy  fun and I love myself some messy play!

What you need:

Glossy white paper works best - photo paper works too / Rubbing Alcohol / Cotton balls or pads/ Rubber gloves / Silicone mat or Protectedsurface / Rinkers of choice /

Optional

Gold or Silver Shimmer paint / embossingpowder / versamark ink / Bleach / Paint brush

 Traditional polished stone:

Cut glossy card stock to desired size. Choose re-inker colours that coordinate along with a silver or gold or bronze metallic colour if desired. Wet cotton cosmetic pad with rubbing alcohol and drop a couple drops of re-inking or metallic colours on to cotton pad and then smooch and dab onto the glossy card stock until desired effect is created! Use a dry cotton ball to pick up any unwanted or pooling ink until you have the desired effect. Can speed drying with heat tool or let air dry. Complete card design as desired!

Embossed designed polished stone:

Create unique patterned backgrounds by first stamping in versamark and embossing the shiny cardstock with background image of choice than doing the polished stone technique over top of the embossed section!

Do it with a Bleach Twist

Do step above and then using a paint brush ‘bleach out’ sections of your stamped design and see what magic happens with the bleach – looks specially pretty if you’ve added gold ink.

Card One : Features Vicki Boutins Colour Kaleidoscope So Fun Stamp set and the Beyond Words Patterned Paper

Card Two: Features the My Favorite Things - Picture Perfect Stamp set .... how adorable are these little animals?
Card Three: Features the My Favorite Things All About You stamp and coordinating die set as well as the My Favorite Things Stacking Rectangles

Card Four: Featuring the Photoplay - We Can Just Stay Home - Colour Me Sheet ... these sheets are so awesome for the beginning or avid paper crafter alike. Perfect for the new crafter who does not have a huge stamp collection to get the 'stamped look' on their cards and for the avid crafter they provide a quick project alternative!

Hope you can pop over to the Scrapbook Nerds & Friends and play along!

Scrapbook Nerd Sketch Challenge

Having fun this week playing along with the Scrapbook Nerd & Friends Sketch challenge by the lovely Milena!

I just can not get enough of the Picket Fences BFF My Tribe stamp set! So many uses for this stamp set ... I think they would be perfect for a bride to be to use to make as their 'Please join by bride tribe' invites for bridesmaids!

Picket Fence - My Tribe Stamp
I paired it with leftover scraps from the lovely Vicki Boutin Wildflower & Honey patterned paper! I love these grid papers because they are prefect for both pocket scrapbooking AND quick card making!

Wildflower & Honey Mingle Paper - 718813522441

I just love how it came together. I added the sentiment 'We are Better Together' from the Altenew Sentiment set Better Together. I am kicking myself for being a lazy stamper and not pulling out my stamperatus to stamp the sentiment because I did not get the crisp stamped sentiment that I wanted in my first try nor my second flip it over and try again so had to choose the best of the two rather than waste paper ... alas one of the ways you know it is hand made is those little imperfections!

Relex Don't Do it ...

Margaret here guest designing with the Scrapbook Nerds! This week were are creating around the theme 'Relax'!

If you have not already joined make sure to come on over and join us in our group so you can play along too - the group is fun and Joy has great contests and prize giveaways!

For me relaxing is playing with mixed media and getting messy in the craftroom - so I am offering a few cards featuring mixed media background using Alcohol inks and metallic paints for a faux Mother of Pearl technique!

I paired my mixed media with the My Favorite Things All About You Stamp and Die set to create some Missing and Thinking you inspired cards to send out to those whom I have not been able to see over the past few months to know I am thinking of them!

I am just loving this stamp set - so many fun options for it and perfect for lots of occasions!

Scrapbook Nerd Sketch Challenge!

Margaret here guest designing for the Scrapbook Nerds and Friends

My turn to play along with this weeks sketch by Milena - card edition! If you want to come play along you can join us on Facebook!

I had so much fun with this one I made two different takes on it!

This was the perfect sketch to use up some scraps from my stash along with some of the Vicki Boutin paper and stickers for this little whimsical 'love notes' card!

My second card instead of using scraps I did some stenciling with my Concord & 9th faceted gems stencil for the 'lines' ... make sure to check out the line over on the Nerds website

If you have not gotten yourself some Picket Fences blending brushes from the shop - you must! They are perfect for stenciling!
