Lovely Day Paper Pumpkin

💕💕💕💕 loving this Lovely Day Paper Pumpkin!

I made my 3 kit directed cards here - they are gorgeous! The colour paplete of Petal Pink, Pool Party, Pretty Peacokk, Rich Razzleberry, Rococo Rose and Old Olive is just breath taking!

The images in the Stamp set are just awesome .... I foresee myself doing lots of coloring with this huge flower! And sentiments are so fun!

Card 1 features are gorgeous fancy fold card and love the die cut flower!

Card 2 features a pretty watermark layered flower - the lighting at the crop I am at does not do it justice!

Card 3 is a fun little birthday card with the two step stamping of the cake and colored cake filling!

I have used one of the dark rich razzleberry card bases to make 2 alternatives so far using the coordinating Happy Birthday stamp and coordinating dies from Saleabration!

This one I used the floral images from the Paper Pumpkin kit and than fussy cut a layered flower popped up and used the Celebrate sentiment from the Happy Birthday Stamp set. I colored the card with the Petal Pink Blends

My second alternative card I used the sentiment from Happy Birthday stamp set embossed with white embossing powder along the side of the card front. I stamped two of the birthday cake images and than cut out the one with the full die and the other with the just the flower dies in order to pop the flowers up. Colored the Flowers with Rich Razzleberry blends and Granny Apple Green.

Scrapbook Nerd Design Team Challenge

Another card showcasing how the Vicki Boutin Wildflower & Honey Mingle paper can be used not only for Scrapbookers but cardmakers as well!

These sheets are awesome for when you need a quick card although don’t rush the stamping. I was silly and didn’t use my Stamp positioner and when I needed to restamp my sentiment to get a clear image it didn’t line up perfectly on me so it’s not as crisp as I could have gotten had I taken the time to use a stamp platform! Even seasoned stampers make mistakes!

This one I used the 4X6 banner pocket card and trimmed it down so it would mount onto 5.25x4 blue cardstock and mounted it onto white cardstock card base.
I dressed it up with some Mustard Gold Nuvo drops for the banner hooks and Wink of Stella on every other banner for a pop of bling!

I added a sentiment from Concord and 9th Tripe Step Thank you stamp sets and added a few hearts in flirty flamingo and pacific point inks from Stampin’ Up! Created a coordinating envelope because no envelope should go out naked 🤣

Happy Stampin'

Faced with facts still denying reality

So the other day there was a lot of debate from my share about the College of ECE having no control over the 3 components in the CPL that everyone hates and despite sharing the regulations that clearly state what the college does and does not control ECE are still feeling that the college could just scrap the process because it is just too time consuming.

So this is my response to that - YES when reading the regulations they do have 'some' control but my whole point of the post with links to the Education Act and the Regulations specific to the CPL was there are certain things legally required of the College to ensure they have as part of the process - so like it or not the self assessment, the learning goals and the record of learning components are all required under the Act's regulations. As are keeping records and the auditing process to cull that members are actually engaging. The framework of the CPL is set out by the Act and it is not going anywhere easily! The Ford government is making cuts to education they are not going to be willing to open the purse strings to revisit amending regulations for early childhood educators around professional development!
So sure within those required regulations the college has wiggle room around how those 3 steps look. So they could perhaps be able to streamline the self assessment portion somehow but the self assessment is something that needs to be done 'consistent across membership' under the Act so we all need to be using the same process/benchmarks to assess ourselves so the Expectations of Practice seems that standard benchmark since job descriptions are so vastly different they would not be a consistent benchmark, they could require us to have MORE or less learning goals than the 3 over 2 year period they could have chosen 3 annually for example. And yes they could choose to control how much PD is actually required of members in a quantitative manner and perhaps give us a stricter amount of hours or really stringent lists of what would qualify as PD.

IMO within the current process they have chosen around the actual 'pd' actually gives US a whole lot of that control back. Aside from the self assessment and dictating that we must have 3 goals over a 24 month period they have given a very broad definition of what PD actually is - technically this right here having this conversation could be PD under the current flexible guidelines if I had mentoring other ECE on the CPL completion as a goal.

So if we only want to do 3-5 PD activities a year or heck spread that over the whole 2 year period that is OUR choice the College has no quantitative definition under the CPL as how much or how little PD you actually must engage in as long as you complete the 3 step process required under the laws mandated and do SOMETHING on your record of learning for each of those goals you are technically compliant!

So do we really not have the 'time' to do this? If we look at 'time' if we were to do ONE PD activity under each goal over a 12 month period - so that is 1 activity every 4 months and it can be as little as reading a 5 minute article online and doing a little 5 minute 'this is what I learned/found interesting and this is how to plan to apply that to my practice' .... that is 10 minutes of PD and do that 3 x per year - 30 minutes out of our 43,800 minutes or 60 minutes of our time out of 87, 600 minutes of our life in a two year period. I think so many ECE are blowing this 'time it takes' up in their minds into something it actually isn't ... some people will always go way above and beyond what is required and that is their journey but if you just want to meet the requirement - stick to the space they give us in the forms. There is not a whole lot of space there for TWO years of PD. Read the samples on the college website - they are not complicated and they all stick within the space allotted in the forms.

Have an amazing day!

Asking for a friend

As the ECE field comes to the end of its first official cycle of the Continuous Profesional Learning process and the dreaded 'audit' process will begin to ensure that as professionals we are actually following the Early Years Education Act and engaging in the continual professional learning as set out by the College of ECE there are a lot of these questions popping up in social media groups.

I have blogged about this before and I will continue to do my best to help educate educators that if these were my friends I would suggest these friends might want to start by reading the Early Childhood Education Act 2007 and it’s amendments specifically around the College and CPL becoming mandatory and that it needs to be done with specific criteria of being implemented consistent engagement across all members so they are aware that the requirement that we engage in the CPL is mandated under that law by the Liberal government back in the day. Like it or not the College is doing what it was legally mandated to do by the government.

Changing the LAW isn’t likely going to happen so the CPL isn’t going anywhere cause the college doesn’t control the Act that governs them any more than we do.

Like it or not if we want to enter or continue to work in the field this is a legal requirement now for continued employment.

As members of the CECE we are all responsible under those laws so when renewing ones membership and clicking off the boxes saying they are complying all these ‘friends’ are signing a legally binding document/contract upheld under that Act testifying that they are abiding by said law.

Lying on a legal document isn’t child’s play and while I am not a lawyer I would imagine the ramifications of doing so could far outweigh just a suspension from the college itself.

Also I would remind my ‘friend” that social media isn’t a “private conversation” even if the group says it’s private there are over 10,000 members in this group lurking and reading these posts. Of those 10,000 members could be college employees, employers or just anyone taking screenshots of all theses decorations of members of College claiming they refuse to engage so basically it’s a public forum so as professionals who are legally bound under professional ethics and standards code of conduct I would advice my friends to be mindful of what they are saying and how it might effect their professional standing with the college.

I would encourage my friend to just spend 10-20 minutes a month and just stay on top of it ... in an audit having 30 days to come up with 2 years of proof and documentation won’t be an easy feat while balancing all our other commitments. This is specifically true if one is trying to recreate documents that CHANGED in the past two years so if you no longer have the originals it will be clear you were note engaged in process all along by the forms you are forced to use to try to fake it! Plustrying to fake it last minute but it’s only going to get worse as the process moves forward and you have to come up with MORE than two years but up to FOUR years worth once we enter into next cycle.

I encourage all ECE to remember to be mindful of how they conduct themselves on social media and in public while representing themselves as an ECE. It is ok to 'disagree' with certain policies and procedures or even laws enacted by our government but please make sure to do so in a respectful and professional manner and make sure you are FOLLOWING the laws that govern us in meantime. There have been ECE who have been reprimanded for 'venting' in public about their work and others who have been fired by their employers - so while there might be a shortage of ECE that does not equate to job security to do whatever we please free of consequences. For those who follow the 'disciplinary committee' outcomes on the College of ECE they would be aware that their conduct outside of work is just as important as on the job conduct.

Try your best to have a great day fellow ECE - keep your cup full of positivity because we cannot pour from an empty cup!

Happy 100th Birthday

My take on the Scrapbooknerd sketches from Instragram or you can play along over Scrapbook Nerds and Friends on Facebook!
For this challenge I opted to use it for a card vs scrapbook layout.

This card features the Concord and 9th Birthday Basics turnabout  and coordinating die set both are available on the Scrapbook Nerd site.

I chose a color palette of black, turquoise and silver for paper, turquoise and silver inks one the turnabout, turquoise ribbon to hide my vellum glue mark.

The birthday sentiment is stamped with versamark and heated with white embossing powder and than you can colour  the embossed part with an alcohol marker to make it pop off black cardstock. I used my Bermuda Bay Stampin’ Blend however any alcohol markers will work too for this embossing technique. I also coloured my rhinestone gems with same marker to create coordinating coloured gems.

The scallop heart is the Stitched Be Mine die from Stampin Up and the 100th is from a retired Numbers for You bundle also from Stampin Up!

This card is going out to Fred Arsenault a Vet in Toronto who turns 100 this March - saw a post that he wants 100 cards for his 100th birthday and wanted to help make his wish come true! Hope you can join me in sending out a card to Fred!

Are there any ECE who enjoy engaging in the CPL?

This question was asked in a CPL group on Facebook today!

My response - admittedly it took me a bit to get going because it was a different way of documenting so yes it felt like just more needless paper work but once I realized I was making it more work than it actually needed to be and now have a groove I can see how this benefits me as a professional and if done properly should benefit the industry as a whole!

Like so many ECE I have always engaged in PD over my now 30 years in the field. I find attending workshops, webinars, reading and networking helps me retain my passion for why I do this emotionally and physically exhausting work year after year. Coworkers have always teased me about being a PD junkie

However admittedly as much PD as I engage in the 'reflection' afterwards of really reflecting on HOW am I going to transfer that new knowledge into my practice and truly following through on it has sometimes been lacking. I would just file the info away in my head but not really change or introduce it into my work. So it is that aspect of the CPL and having to put my goals and plans in writing to make me accountable not only to myself but to the CPL process that I think is actually MOST important part of the CPL and a part of my practice was lacking prior to engaging in the formal CPL process!

After 30 years in the field I have seen first hand over and over A+ ECE students join the field full of passion and who have all this knowledge in their HEAD but when it comes to their actual practice they cannot get that knowledge out and put it to use within the program ... and when it comes to managing a group of children fact is that knowledge is not enough we need to be able to turn that knowledge into functioning skills!

IMO that is where the reflection and plan of action pieces of the CPL come into play ... sure we read an article or took a webinar on documentation or trauma based practice or autism or whatever but how did it actually change our practice because if we go back to work and keep doing the same ole same ole that 'professional development' was not development at all

That is my two cents on the CPL!
